fipresci london critics baftas oscars shadows awards 18th Online Film Critics Awards

Nominations 9.Dec.14 • Winners 16.Dec.14

Notes by Rich: The Online Film Critics Society was established in 1997, and is now part of the mainstream awards season. Members come from all over the world, but the predominantly American membership is starting to give way to more global critics, as evidenced by some quirky nominations and a new (noncompetitive) list of the 10 best non-U.S. releases. This year's odd touches include a complete snubs for The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and Unbroken and unexpected nominations for Ida, Two Days One Night, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Snowpiercer. It's also interesting to see the online fanboy surge for winners like Birdman, Gone Girl and even The Grand Budapest Hotel as Best Film.

Rich Cline has been a member of the OFCS since September 2003.               See also: The OFCS blog
