Notes by Rich: The Online Film Critics Society was established in 1997, and is now part of the mainstream awards season. Members come from all over the world, but the predominantly American membership is clear the few nods to films from outside the USA aside from the expected ones. While Amour went home empty-handed, This Is Not a Film deservedly took best doc. This year's biggest quirk is the welcome nomination of Leos Carax's Holy Motors in mainstream categories like film, director and actor (I voted for it!). By comparison, it's interesting that fanboy favourite Lincoln wasn't up for film or director, although The Cabin in the Woods, Cosmopolis and Looper nabbed screenplay nominations. The oddest surprise is the shut-out of Ang Lee's acclaimed Life of Pi.
