Nominations Thu 21 Jan 10 • Awards Sun 21 Feb 10
Notes by Rich: Bafta nominations always seem just a little off the beaten path, taking what we generally expect from Oscar nods (which come a couple of weeks later) and throwing in several wild cards. This year it's no surprise that An Education has so much Bafta love. But what happened to Bright Star? Helen Mirren? Peter Capaldi? And perhaps most bizarrely, nothing for either of the first-rate Clint Eastwood films eligible for these awards: Gran Torino and Invictus (after Changeling received 8 nods last year - but no wins). On the other hand, it's great to see District 9 get some proper awards recognition here. And Avatar is likely to add even more awards to James Cameron's already crowded mantlepiece.
