the gang meets larry
Now even more firmly in middle age, this crew once again call this their final movie. But this feels more nostalgic, looking back fondly on three decades of outrageously stupid antics. They are still laughing uncontrollably at the same things that tickled (and wounded) them through the years, even if they're not quite as willing to put their bodies at risk. And they still find genital pain hilarious.
Included here are favourite stunts, unseen sequences and brand new gags, such as a naturally scatological encounter with a robot named Larry. But then virtually everything they do zeroes in on a certain region of the male anatomy, often with the goal of seeing how much agony their friends will endure. The new scenes are often startlingly shambolic, from a dopey puppet show to an unhinged escape room. Classic moments include two Poo Cocktails, which involves upending a portaloo. And there's a new Bad Grandpa sequence, in which Knoxville plays a wildly inappropriate old man.
Opening with a whizzy Jamiroquai title sequence that quickly spirals into painful chaos, the film captures the unusual closeness between these men, who are happy to strip naked around each other for awkwardly amusing purposes. Although their obsession with excrement is downright revolting. And they fondly remember their most insane gags, because they had the biggest impact on-camera. A closing credits collage of stunts leaves us wondering why any of them are still alive.

Some of this footage was previously censored for good reason, such as Knoxville shooting himself while wearing a bulletproof vest or rolling down stairs in a cardboard box. Clearly insane, these aren't even the most horrifyingly perilous things they do. They revisit Knoxville blasting off on a rocket and taking a hit from a bull that sends him to hospital. Archival sequences feature Bam Margera, the late Ryan Dunn and even an up-for-it Brad Pitt.

The best bits in this film are when they are sitting around reminiscing about the stupid things they've done together. These guys can barely speak because they're laughing so much, even if what is happening isn't remotely funny, such as annoying golfers with an airhorn. But it's fun to see that they are the same idiots they were 30 years ago. So even as they build to an emotional, explosive finale, we can't help but know that this isn't the last we'll see of them.
